So you’re throwing a pool party and it’s going to be the splash hit of the summer. You’ve created a playlist of music specifically for the party, you’ve dug out your old bathing suit from the back of the closet (praying it still fits), and you have enough pool noodles for the entire neighbourhood. But do you know what snacks you’re going to serve to solidify your reputation as summer royalty? Well if the answer is no, you've come to the right place! Here are some of the fabulous things you can serve:
1. Watermelon Ice Lollies
I know you're probably thinking there's nothing more refreshing than watermelon on a hot day. Wrong. Turn your slices of watermelon into popsicles with this recipe.
2. Fruit Kebabs
These are as easy as cutting up fruit and putting it on sticks. Shame on you if you have to look up a recipe for these! BONUS: For fancier kebabs, try balling fruit with a melon baller. (Note: not all fruit is ball-able. Keep the baller away from grapes and oranges.)
3. Strawberry Jello-O Shots
Here’s a recipe for making adorably delicious strawberry margarita Jell-O shots. Be careful, though, because they taste like candy, but will get you drunk, and it’s kind of embarrassing telling people you’re hungover from little sugar-dipped strawberries! I’m pretty sure this goes without saying, but don’t serve these to kids unless you make them without booze.
4. Rainbow Pudding Pops
These combine four of the very best things in the world: rainbows, pudding, popsicles, and eating things on a stick. Not only that, but you can make them with any (light-coloured) pudding flavour you want! Did you know you can buy cheesecake-flavoured pudding? I didn’t until just now when I Googled pudding flavours and now I’m very excited. The recipe can be found here.
5. Watermelon Keg
No, you aren’t seeing things. Yes, that is a watermelon with a tap. You can turn a watermelon into a keg and fill it with whatever beverage you choose (but probably something made with watermelon would make the most sense). Find the directions here. They also provide a recipe for watermelon agua fresca, but you can also try something like, say, strawberry margaritas.
Disclaimer: We do not recommend drinking until after you’ve enjoyed the pool. Drinking and swimming pools do not go super well together.
